And one more note... remember, in 2008, Rick Davis used one scandal (the politicization and piggy-bank revolving door of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae going to extremes) to obscure all the other ones. The rise and fall of sketch banking 2005-2007 obscured both things like Deripaska and Manafort worming into multiple holes in the GOP and things like Likud and GRU becoming a London-based unit, two big events that formed later events. It also helped obscure power moves around Yukos and Georgia, of course. This is what the GOP does - create so much illegal noise with money laundering that you don't notice the treason.

Jay, some thoughts on the Schmidt/McCain talk - you know the essence of Steve's charge is malicious and wrong insofar as it calls McCain personally owned by Putin - which he emphatically and obviously wasn't - but he's doing the Lord's work when he tells people to look at McCain's *circle* 2006-2008. Why did Patten drift towards Moscow without being noticed at the same time as Alexander Ali used farm-team black bag stunts for the campaign to get deeper INTO the GOP/CNP world? You can't undo a true shit-slinging fest like Steve vs Megan, BUT, what you can do is shine your light on 2005-2008, and, sadly, that real history is quite close to Steve's sketch, even if he gets the central fact wrong in a way that sadly slanders a dead man.

Whether the gods, fates or Ed Whelan associate managed to get Jesse Benton in front of McFadden doesn't matter - you can't let shit-sling moments like this keep you from the mission of letting people know exactly who Jesse is in a way the Greenwald-Putin axis can't obscure.
